Product Overview

Instrumentation Needle Valves

A needle valve closes by driving a finely tapered stem tip into a matching seat through a fine-pitch thread. Many turns of the handle move the tip only a short distance, so the operator can throttle flow precisely and shut off positively against high pressure — ideal for isolating gauges, transmitters and sample points.

Kalpataru needle valves have a bar stock body, a back-seating stem that seals against the bonnet when fully open, and an adjustable gland so packing can be re-tightened in service without removing the valve. The bonnet is locked to the body to prevent accidental dismantling under pressure.

Why Kalpataru

Features & Advantages

Precise Regulation

Fine-pitch stem threads and a tapered tip give smooth, repeatable throttling from fully closed to fully open.

Safe Bonnet Design

Locking pin and back-seating stem keep the bonnet in place and relieve the packing when the valve is fully open.

Packing for Every Duty

PTFE for general service, Grafoil for high-temperature steam and hydrocarbons, PEEK where required.

Tested & Traceable

Every valve is shell and seat tested before dispatch, with heat numbers linked to mill certificates. PMI and TPI on request.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a needle valve and a ball valve?
A ball valve opens or closes with a quarter turn and is best for quick on/off isolation. A needle valve needs several turns and uses a tapered stem, which gives fine flow control and a tight shut-off at high pressure — preferred for gauge and transmitter isolation and sampling.
Which packing should I choose — PTFE or Grafoil?
PTFE is the standard choice for most liquids and gases up to about 232 °C. Grafoil (flexible graphite) is used for steam and high-temperature service up to about 538 °C. PEEK packing is available on request where higher mechanical strength than PTFE is needed.
Can the packing be adjusted without removing the valve?
Yes. If minor stem leakage appears, tighten the gland nut about 1/8 of a turn at a time until it stops. With the stem fully back-seated, the packing is isolated from line pressure for safer adjustment.
Do you supply needle valves for oxygen or sour service?
Yes. Valves can be cleaned and packed for oxygen service, and supplied in materials meeting NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 for sour gas applications. Please state the requirement at the enquiry stage.
